Good News for iphone 5 lovers.. Fran Shammo, Verizon Chief Financial Officer, confirmed during Reuters Global Technology Summit that iphone 5 will use any network carrier. iphone 5 unlock is going to be official. Shammo revealed that Apple’s next generation iphone , iphone 5 is going to be a dual mode phone. This means that it will likely be able to use both GSM and CDMA network connectivity rather than having separate models for each network standard. It is also said that Verizon wireless will be competing with AT&T by selling the next generation iphone 5.
During the Technology Summit he said:
While Verizon has sold fewer iphones than some analysts expected, Shammo said he was happy with sales of the “six-month-old phone” that only works in some countries. When the next iphone model launches Verizon will be able to offer it at the same time as AT&T. Verizon’s version will also work in as many countries as AT&T’s iphone, which has global coverage, Shammo said. Some customers held off on buying the first Verizon iPhone because they were waiting for a model that supports Verizon’s high-speed wireless service, which runs on a new technology called Long Term Evolution (LTE). Shammo said that even if the next iphone does not support LTE, Verizon will have enough high-speed alternatives to sell.The comments by Verizon CFO indicates that iphone 5 will be unlocked on any network carrier. It will be a “Global Device” with the Qualcomm Gobi chip, allowing users to use network of their choice. Well doesn’t this seem a great news.. We can have an unlocked iphone 5 that can support any network carrier. But still as said that “Seeing is believing”, so we have to wait for the iphone 5 to be available in the store shelves.
