It seems that iphone 5 might have harder time to gain marketing momentum than its predecessors. We all have heard a lot of rumors about iphone 5. Today, there is an increasing loud rumor suggesting that Apple’s next generation

iphone, iphone 5 might have a curved glass screen, which indicates a complete redesign rather than a modest update.
Some sources in the supply chain reportedly told DigiTimes that Apple has purchased 200-300 glass cutting machines which will be used by glass makers for the production of curved displays for iphone 5. According to DigiTimes, cover glass makers are said to be reluctant to commit investment in glass cutting equipments because of the high cost involved.
Reports suggest that “The glass slicing machines are currently being stored at associated assembly plants and will be brought online once yield rates for the production of curved glass reaches a satisfactory level,”
There is no fixed timeline for the volume production of iphone 5 yet. But the sources commented that “Apple is currently working with the related suppliers i.e. those involved in cover glass, glass cutting, lamination and touch sensors”.
The concept of curved glass screen was first followed by Samsung’s Nexus S  which was launched at the United States last December. This device from Google was the first to run the “Gingerbread” Android mobile OS. It also sports a 400X800 pixel display on a unique “contour display” with curved glass.
If the rumors are true, then it is likely that iphone 5 would follow the footsteps of Samsung Nexus S, the first smartphone to offer a “Contour Display” ,as referred by the company. Apple’s idea behind using a curve display is to create a i-device that fits comfortably in your palm. However the iphone 5 would not adopt the same design of the Nexus S.
