Apple to Continue Using Google Maps on iOS 5

Posted by Ejoypad

For those who got worried about recent rumors that Apple is abandoning Google Maps on the upcoming iOS 5, well you can rest easy now. Reports had it that Apple will continue using Google Maps as the official map service for iOS 5. This is despite earlier rumors that Apple is currently working on its iOS Maps application and the company’s recent purchase of Poly9 and Placebase, which are two companies which specialize in mapping solutions. This was strengthen further by multiple job postings related to mapping technology which were spotted on Apple’s official site.

Another reason why rumors started that Apple is building its own map service for iOS 5 is that Apple is preparing to compete with Google if not put a distance between them and Google.  Citing reliable sources, the report said that this is not true at all. Apple maybe planning to compete with Google’s cloud music service, but as for the mapping service, well, there might be some plans but as for now, let’s all be contented knowing the fact that we will still continue seeing and using Google Maps on our future iPhone running iOS5.

Who knows? Apple might be introducing some new features to iOS 5′s mapping service which will work wonderfully with Google Maps.
